- Fremont, CA, June 26, 1991 — PLI, the premier manufacturer of storage products
- for the Apple Macintosh since 1985, began shipping QuickSCSI™, a SCSI-2 NuBus
- host adapter for the Macintosh II family of personal computers. QuickSCSI™
- supports data transfer rate over three times faster than the Macintosh SCSI
- port (a major I/O bottleneck for disk intensive operations) and provides disk
- mirroring, for continual backup.
-
- RADUIS ROCKET™
- "You can't really use your Radius Rocket™ without accelerating your SCSI por
- PLI's QuickSCSI™ is the best solution we found," said Jim Manderscheid, design
- consultant and beta-tester for QuickSCSI™. Jim uses a Macintosh II and IIci
- with the Radius Rocket™, PLI QuickSCSI™, and Design Workshop's DW2000 CAD
- software for the design of integrated circuits. Virtual memory (swap space)
- and file conversion functions are 2 to 3 times faster with PLI's QuickSCSI.
-
- "A QUANTUM LEAP"
- "For Macintosh II owners anywhere, a quantum leap in productivity and
- through-put . . . a workstation for the price of a $399 board," Bob
- Goodman, Whalesong Project and QuickSCSI™ beta-tester.
-
-
- CANVAS 3.0™
- "We are extremely satisfied with the performance of QuickSCSI," said Doug
- Levy, president of Deneba Software. Deneba Software is using QuickSCSI™ for
- development of Canvas 3.0™. QuickSCSI™'s reduces compiling time for software
- engineers.
-
- QuickSCSI removes the Macintosh's 1.4 MB/sec data transfer rate bottleneck b
- supporting sustained data transfer rates of 4.4 megabytes per second and burst
- data transfer rates 6.0 megabytes per second. The SCSI port on the Macintosh
- exchanges 8 bits of data at a time. QuickSCSI exchanges 32 bits of data at a
- time over the NuBus, providing a wider channel for data communications between
- the drive and the Macintosh.
- "The real benefits of QuickSCSI are analogous to driving. If you drive 55 m
- for a mile and then drive 100 mph for a mile the difference is noticeable, but
- not that significant. If you drive 100 miles at the two different speeds, the
- difference is very significant," said Fred Swan, product marketing manager.
- Disk intensive operations, such as graphics, CAD, files servers, software
- development, pre-press, database management, can all benefit from the higher
- data transfer rates supported by QuickSCSI™.
- QuickSCSI also offers disk duplexing. Disk duplexing allows the Macintosh t
- simultaneously write to two separate drives thus providing real-time
- transparent back-up. Disk duplexing is important to users who cannot afford
- to lose data from a flawed backup or to suffer down time restoring a crashed
- drive.
- QuickSCSI also does not disable the Macintosh SCSI port, allowing up to 14
- SCSI devices to run simultaneously. While few people find the need to
- simultaneously run 14 SCSI devices, QuickSCSI does provide the flexibility to
- dedicate a SCSI port to troublesome devices like scanners, avoiding mysterious
- termination problems.
- QuickSCSI, equipped with a 25 Mhz SCSI controller from NCR, is compatible wi
- A/UX and System 7. The Macintosh can boot from drives using QuickSCSI.
- QuickSCSI has an internal 50-pin SCSI port so it may be used with internal
- drives.

-
- PRICE and AVAILABILITY
- QuickSCSI breaks the price barrier for SCSI host adapters. Compatible with
- wide range of manufacturers drive, QuickSCSI is $399 when purchased with a PLI
- storage system and $599 when purchased without one. QuickSCSI is the most
- affordable SCSI adapter on the market. QuickSCSI comes with a 30-day money
- back guaranteed and a 1 year warranty. A SCSI-2 cable must be purchased
- separately. QuickSCSI is available through Authorized PLI Dealers.
